LEIPZIG, Germany, Sept. 25, 2007 - Trimble today introduced new and enhanced surveying products as part of its Connected Site model-the new Trimble® S8 Total Station and Trimble 4D Control Software for engineering and monitoring applications; advances in Spatial Imaging with the next-generation Trimble GXTM 3D Scanner and enhanced field and office software that works with the Trimble VXTM Spatial Station; an expanded service for Trimble VRS NowTM service in Germany; and an updated Trimble VRSTM Infrastructure solution. These positioning products and services add greater flexibility and versatility to provide seamless and streamlined workflow for all of the critical phases of surveying.
The announcement was made today at INTERGEO 2007, the world's largest conference on geodesy, geoinformatics and land management.
"Each product is an important component of Trimble's Connected Site model, which empowers surveyors with ultimate flexibility and connectivity while on the job," said Jürgen Kliem, general manager for Trimble's Survey Division. "The Trimble survey portfolio is a complete, compatible set of tools built with the latest positioning technologies designed to seamlessly streamline and automate the surveyor's workflow. The Connected Site provides the surveyor with total flexibility to choose just the right tools for each survey task. From robotic and mechanical total stations to RTK GNSS systems, and spatial imaging to precise leveling systems, everything a surveyor needs for any project is available from a single source."
Trimble S8 Total Station and Trimble 4D Control Software for Surveying and Specialized Engineering Applications
The Trimble S8 Total Station is Trimble's most advanced optical instrument to date. Designed to deliver unsurpassed performance in both surveying and specialized engineering applications such as monitoring and tunneling, the robotic Trimble S8 offers 1" angular accuracy and EDM precision of 1 mm + 1 ppm, plus numerous features to enhance efficiency and productivity.
The Trimble S8 instrument is built on Trimble's latest total station technologies. Trimble's MagDriveTM servo technology ensures the total station is fast and silent so users can survey or monitor (unobtrusively) more targets in less time, detect movements faster, and initiate alarms earlier.
Equipped with unique features, the Trimble S8 Total Station includes Trimble FineLockTM technology and high-speed data synchronization outputs. FineLock is a smart tracker sensor with a narrow field of view that enables the Trimble S8 to detect a target without interference from surrounding prisms. The 10 Hz high-speed synchronized data output makes data collection faster and more accurate. For example, when monitoring a railway car or ATV, the instrument can move more quickly without compromising accuracy.
The Trimble S8 Total Station works with the Trimble CU and TSC2® Controllers running Trimble Survey ControllerTM software, which now offers an optional Engineering module. The new Trimble 4D Control software is a postprocessing software designed for engineering applications such as monitoring. When target movement is detected over time, the customizable Trimble 4D Control software generates alarms and warnings so the information can be acted on quickly.
The Trimble S8 Total Station's optical data can be combined with GPS and 3D scanning data, or it can be used as a Trimble I.S. Rover.
Trimble GX 3D Scanner-the Next Generation
The Trimble GX 3D Scanner is an advanced surveying and spatial imaging sensor that uses high-speed laser and video to capture coordinates and image data. The data is then processed in Trimble RealWorks® Survey software and delivered to clients in compelling 2D and 3D.
With the latest generation of the Trimble GX 3D Scanner, users can collect millions of points for photo-realistic resolution, or they can collect exactly the number of points they need with Trimble SureScanTM technology. SureScan patented technology maintains a user-defined, equal density of points even for target objects such as roads and tunnels. Users wont capture too many points at short distances or too few points at longer distances. The system enables surveyors and geospatial professionals to collect and process data faster by focusing on collecting the right points, not just more points.
The Trimble GX 3D Scanner system also supports the field-proven Trimble TSC2 Controller. The TSC2 Controller runs Trimble PocketScapeTM field software, plus standard and specialized Windows® Mobile® programs. Its industry-leading communication technologies offer cable-free convenience and wireless connectivity anywhere, and the TSC2 Controller can be used with all Trimble positioning sensors on a job, including GPS systems and total stations.
Trimble VX Spatial Station-Greater Efficiency in the Field and Office
The Trimble VX Spatial Station has been enhanced through new functionality in Trimble Survey Controller field software and Trimble RealWorks SurveyTM office software, improving field productivity and allowing users to create enhanced deliverables in the office.
The new in-field functionality for Trimble Survey Controller includes polygon framing that allows users to select exactly the area they want to scan. Users can thereby complete scanning jobs faster. Users can also view captured point clouds over the video stream of their job site, as well as enjoy panoramic image capture. These new capabilities enable users to minimize gaps and overlaps in scan data, reducing redundancy and rework.
For enhanced office deliverables, RealWorks Survey software allows spatial imaging professionals to provide data to clients as a walk-through or fly-through in 3D. In addition, users can export 3D models into GoogleTM Earth, so data can be viewed as it will actually appear as an object onsite.
